Keep EPS Foam off MD Beaches
Trash in the Marsh. Trash on the bayside
EPS Foam – Expanded Polystyrene Foam – sometimes known by its trademarked name Styrofoam – is one of the most commonly found items on our beaches, and along bays, and rivers. In fact, it is 25% of the pieces found in certain trash surveys. A bill in the Maryland General Assembly in early 2017 would ban such foamed plastic in takeout food containers.
Working with our friends at Trash Free Maryland and our DC Chapter we encouraged Maryland residents to visit this website and contact their legislators. http://banthefoam.org/
While the bill did not pass there will be a study this summer on the appropriate action. Stay tuned for more on this important campaign.
