Ban on Balloon Releases Becomes Law

A bill in the MD Legislature that would ban the intentional release of balloons passed on April 8th. In Maryland, the Governor can either sign a bill into law, or the Governor can choose not to act on that bill in which case it becomes law after 45 days.

Well, the Governor has not acted, but 45 days have passed, so both bills HB391 and S716 have become state law. Several counties had already passed similar laws which helped the state take action. Chapter activists and staff testified at the various legislative hearings in both houses of the legislature. Thank you to everyone who helped advocate for this bill's passage and for the hundreds of you that emailed your legislators through our action alert.
