Who We Are
Established in June of 1999, the Ocean City Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation is made up of surfers and non-surfers who care about and enjoy our beaches and oceans and work to ensure that they are clean and accessible for all to enjoy.
What We Do
Throughout the year, we host, co-host and participate in events that focus attention on protecting and enjoying our beautiful, yet fragile environment. We work closely with our Ocean City ohana which includes the Town of Ocean City, Maryland Coastal Bays Program, Assateague Coastal Trust, Surfers Healing Ocean City, The Ocean Conservancy, our residents and our many visitors. The funds we raise go towards providing informational and awareness materials to the public through outlets such as area surf shops and the Ocean City Visitors Center. These items help spread our mantra and primary initiative, ”Please Leave Only Your Footprints.” You can spot our message all around town on beach trash and butt cans; billboards; lighted hotel, motel and restaurant signs; the Convention Center marquis; the beach access street signs; Ocean City trash trucks; and bumperstickers, wristbands and shirts! A clean ocean starts with a clean beach, clean boardwalk, clean sidewalks, clean streets, clean bays and clean waterways. By not littering and by picking up trash when you see it, you help us help our Mother Ocean!
The Ocean City Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation was formed to heighten the awareness of our residents and visitors for our fragile and beautiful environment, and through its initiatives, enhance and safeguard, when and wherever possible, our waves, dunes and beaches for the enjoyment of all – present and future.
The Surfrider Foundation is a non-profit grassroots organization dedicated to the protection and preservation of our world’s oceans, waves and beaches.
