Hill Day is a tradition we look forward to every year, when hundreds of coastal activists ask our leaders in Washington for stronger ocean protections. Mandi Wells, one of the club advisors for the Stephen Decatur High School Surfrider Club reflects:
The Surfrider Foundation Annapolis and Ocean City Chapters teamed up to fight for ocean protection legislation at the 8th Annual Hill Day held on February 29, 2024. Included in the participants were members of both chapters as well as students from the Annapolis High School Club and the Stephen Decatur High School Club. In all, the Maryland group met with 9 delegates, asking them to support environmental legislation targeting plastic pollution, water quality testing, and offshore oil drilling. Although the meetings were virtual this year, the experience was a positive one, garnering support from many of the offices. Having the students lobby for the protection and enjoyment of our oceans, waves, and beaches is always a highlight of the event, and one that we hope to continue into the future.
Thank you to this rockstar team for standing up for our ocean, waves, and beaches!
